Myth No.3: Our garburator grinds up all our food waste and we simply rinse it down the drain. It would never hurt our septic system?

closed in pipe

Fact - Grease will clog pipes.
After a few panfuls of hot bacon grease, the walls of your interior plumbing pipes and septic lines will begin to coat with the fat deposits which will overtime reduce the diameter substantially.

For example:
A 13 year old septic system I inspected had a layer of 13 inches of grease blocking the inlet pipe flow into the second chamber of the septic tank. It also had an overall diameter inside the 4 inch inlet pipe of 2 inches for toilet tissue to easily clog.

Garburators are not the effective way to dispose of food waste.
Septic tanks are designed for human waste not food waste.
Green bins and composts are for food waste.
